for Christian
Unity in Flagler County January 18-25, 2011
Scriptural
basis for Christian
Unity [using the New
Revised Standard
Version Bible] Selections by Chau
T. Phan, Flagler Churches Together in Prayer and
Song
11And now I am no longer in the world, but they are
in the world,
and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them in your name
that you
have given me, so that they may be one, as we are one....20
I ask not only on behalf of these, but also on behalf of those
who will
believe in me through their word, 21that they may
all be
one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also
be in us,
so that the world may believe that you have sent me.
John, 17:11,
20-21.
34I give you a new commandment, that you love one
another.
Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.35By
this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have
love for
one another. John 13:34-35.
The Apostle Paul on unity
4 1 I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beg you
to lead a
life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, 2with
all
humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another
in
love, 3making every effort to maintain the unity of
the Spirit
in the bond of peace. 4There is one body and one
Spirit, just
as you were called to the one hope of your calling, 5one
Lord,
one faith, one baptism, 6one God and Father of
all, who
is above all and through all and in all.Ephesians,
4:1-6
10 Now I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, by the
name of
our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you should be in
agreement and that
there should be no divisions among you, but that you should be
united in
the same mind and the same purpose. I Corinthians 1:10
12 For just as the body is one and has many
members, and
all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is
with Christ.
13For in the one Spirit we were all baptized into one
body?Jews
or Greeks, slaves or free?and we were all made to drink of one
Spirit.
14 Indeed, the body does not consist of one member
but of many.
.... 25that there may be no dissension within the
body, but
the members may have the same care for one another. 26
If one
member suffers, all suffer together with it; if one member is
honored,
all rejoice together with it. 27Now
you
are the body of Christ and individually members of it.1
Corinthians
12:12-27
4 For just as each of us has one body with many
members, and
these members do not all have the same function, 5
so in
Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs
to all the
others. Romans, 12:4-5
Make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining
the same
love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Philippians
2:2
Beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect
bond of unity.
Colossians 3:14
From the Acts of the Apostles
4
32 Now the whole group of those who believed were of
one heart
and soul. Acts 4:32
